SBN Ritel Investment Benefits
- SBN Ritel offers higher coupons or interest rates and lower taxes compared to deposits. The coupons are paid regularly in accordance with the provisions of SBN Ritel as set by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia.
- For tradable SBN Ritel, investors can sell the SBN Ritel purchased in the primary market before maturity. If the investors sell the SBN Ritel at a higher price than their purchase price, investors will earn a profit or capital gain, with considering applicable transaction fees and taxes.
- SBN Ritel issued and guaranteed by the government of the Republic of Indonesia through the Ministry of Finance. The government of the Republic of Indonesia guarantees the payment both the investment principal and its coupons, where the investment principal is 100% protected if held until the maturity.
Investment Risks in SBN Ritel
There are 3 (three) main types of risks that need to be considered when investing in financial market instruments. These risks are as follows:
1. Default Risk
This refers to the risk where investors may not receive the promised payments, both coupons and principal from the issuer at maturity. This risk occurs if the issuer of the investment instrument defaults or unable to meets its obligations to pay the principal, interest, and/or dividends. SBN Ritel does not carry default risk, as the Republic of Indonesia guarantees the payment both coupons and principal until maturity, as the required funds are provided in the APBN annually.
2. Market Risk
For tradable SBN Ritel, losses may occur if the investor sells the SBN Ritel in the secondary market before maturity at a price lower than the purchase price. The potential for losses increases if there is an increase in interest rates, which can lead to a decrease in the price of SBN Ritel in the secondary market.
3. Liquidity Risk
The liquidity risk can occur if the investors require funds quickly but are unable to sell or redeem the investment product quickly at a fair price.
